Setting up your first size chart

Use this guide to quickly create and customize your first size chart in Clean Size Charts. Follow the steps below to choose a template, personalize the chart, assign products, and confirm it’s live on your Shopify store.

Step 1: Create a New Size Chart

Open the Clean Size Charts dashboard.

Click on Create a Size Chart.

Step 2: Choose a Template

Clean Size Charts provides 12 different templates and 6 unique styles so you can get up and running fast. Our templates include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Men’s Tops
  • Women’s Tops
  • Men’s Bottoms
  • Women’s Bottoms
  • Men’s Shoes
  • Women’s Shoes
  • Bra
  • Dress
  • Bikini
  • Pet Clothing

Tip: If none of these templates fit your needs, click Blank to build your own layout from scratch or reach out to our team about adding a new template.

Step 3: Begin Customizing (Content Tab)

Once you’ve selected a template, go to the Content tab. Here, you can:

  • Modify text fields
  • Adjust or replace existing measurements
  • Add images and other visuals

Step 4: Name Your Size Chart (Required)

Give your chart a name you’ll recognize internally, such as “Men’s Tops – Spring Collection.” This helps you stay organized if you create multiple charts.

Step 5: Add Text to the Top of Your Chart

Use the top text area to provide helpful information for customers—such as fit tips, customer service details, or brand-specific advice. For example, Brooks Running uses:

“Questions about tops for running? We’ve got you covered. Check out our size chart, fit tips, and measuring guide below. If you need some extra fit help, ask a guru.”

Feel free to adapt your text to match your brand’s tone and messaging.

Step 6: Enable Automatic Unit Conversion (Premium and Growth Plans)

If you sell to U.S. and international customers, you may want to display both inches and centimeters. To do this:

  1. Scroll down to Unit Conversion.
  2. Toggle on Enable Automatic Unit Conversion.

Note: This feature is only available on our Premium and Growth plans. If you need to upgrade, visit [Your Plan Settings] or contact support.

Step 7: Update the Sample Table with Your Measurements

Our pre-built templates come with sample measurement data. Replace or adjust these measurements according to your manufacturer or supplier’s information so that customers see accurate sizing.

Want more detail on tables? Check out our guide: Using and Creating Tables.

Step 8: Add “How to Measure” Instructions at the Bottom

The bottom text area is perfect for explaining “How to Measure.” We include sample instructions tailored to each template, which you can further customize. For instance, you might include:

  • How to measure chest or bust
  • Where to measure inseam or hip
  • Tips for ensuring accuracy

Step 9: Add Images (Optional)

To add visuals, click the Image Box and choose to place your image as a background, or aligned to the top, bottom, left, or right of your chart. This is ideal for including brand logos, measurement diagrams, or lifestyle images.

For more details, see How to Add an Image in our knowledge base.

Step 10: Assign Products to the Size Chart

  1. Click on the Products tab.

  1. Decide how you want the chart to appear:
    • All products
    • Individual products
    • By collection
    • By tag
    • By vendor
    • By product type

We recommend using Show on these Products so you can specifically select where your size chart appears.

Step 11: Publish and Save Your Size Chart

  1. Toggle the size chart’s Published status to On.

  1. Click Save.

Step 12: Enable the Theme App Extension

Next, make sure your size chart can appear on your storefront. In your Shopify Theme Editor:

  1. Locate Clean Size Charts - Size Chart under Theme App Extensions.

  1. Toggle it On.

  1. Click the Save button in the top-right corner.

Step 13: Confirm Your Size Chart Appears

  1. Visit your Shopify storefront.
  2. Navigate to a product page that should display the size chart.
  3. Verify the “Size Chart” link or button is visible.

Troubleshooting: If you don’t see it, ensure you’ve saved your changes and the extension is enabled. Clearing your browser’s cache or refreshing the page can also help.

Step 14: Adjust Global Styling & Placement (Optional)

By default, your size chart appears in a fixed location in the browser window. To change this:

  1. Go to Style & Placement within the Clean Size Charts app (left navigation).

  1. Adjust where and how the size chart is displayed for all products.

Use these settings to align the chart with your theme’s design and layout preferences.
